Nuala Herron is a contemporary artist specialising in Drawing and Painting. She aims to tell a story through painting, encouraging a dialogue between the art and viewer.
With a background of Life painting, working mainly in oils, her main focus has always been the human form. Her work also includes urban landscapes and more recently, the use of animals as symbolism, alongside human portraits. She draws on her personal life and surroundings, exploring themes of Fertility and Motherhood, Society and more recently, The Natural Environment.
She has been a practicing artist for fifteen years and in that time, has exhibited Nationally and Internationally, gaining widespread recognition and her works have been purchased for private collections.
Originally from Derry, Northern Ireland, Nuala completed her Fine Art degree at Belfast College of Art, after first studying Art for two years in Edinburgh.
She graduated in 2004 and was awarded the John Turner Bursary Award for Figurative Painter of the Year.
Nuala has received funding and won several awards including a New York residency from The NI arts council and funding from The Culture Company, while also being selected to appear on Sky Portrait artist of the year.
Since graduating, Nuala completed a post-graduate course and became a part-time art teacher, which continues to help fund her practice.
She now lives on the Derry/Donegal border with her family and continues to draw and paint from her home studio.
She is a member of Visual Arts Ireland, Artlink Inishowen and The Artist Collective 'Spilt Milk' Edinburgh.
